Introduction to the world of Dead and Buried
To put it concisely, Dead and Buried is a vampire roleplay forum based on the popular online browser game - Dark Alleyway (AKA RavenBlack City). The roleplay here on the forum takes a turn-based non-freeform style, where all posts are written as if describing your vampire character in a story. We pride ourselves on original entertaining storylines about meaningful things.
(Have no clue what the rest of this post is talking about? Never heard of Dark Alleyway or RavenBlack before? Then you need to read the Newbie Guide FIRST.
Unlike other DA forums, D&B is centred directly around political machinations, and the city-wide war for control and power. The territorial combat system is one of the main focuses of Dead and Buried, as it works as a platform for other areas of roleplay, such as the constant tension between various bloodlines, clans, alliances and factions, and the political system of the city itself.
But more than simply being about war and conquest, Dead and Buried aims to take the Dark Alleyway universe and give it FORM for the sake of narrative roleplay. What kills a vampire? Can a vampire give birth or eat? What about the city's many guilds? Such questions are not for one single person to answer, but the collective players of the game as a whole. As such, a democratic process is under-way to give YOU the opportunity to shape the very mythos of D&B's take on the Dark Alleyway. What is decided by poll becomes the official structure of the fictional universe while you are on this site.
However, we do not attempt to force these decisions on anyone outside of this forum. D&B's codex area only applies to D&B. Don't agree with the view of the majority on how they see the Dark Alleyway as existing? Feel free not to join our forum, and instead I'd like to recommend to you RBRP, which is slightly more freeform than we are. The purpose of all of this is to give players of the Dark Alleyway something substantial which can be used consistently throughout all roleplay here, rather than a mish-mash of thoughts and conflicting ideas. We aim to cement a real and logical codex of guidelines in much the same way as Vampire: The Masquerade. No, the maker of DA never set out specifics regarding the city, but Dead and Buried, in a certain way, stands apart from the Dark Alleyway as a kind of spin-off game. We still use the grid itself to fight, gain power, and keep track of bloodlines, but in joining D&B you are opting to extend upon the shallow universe of the Dark Alleyway, and build upon it as a community. So forget what you know, because this is a new start, one which we can all shape.
