The Newbie Guide
So you're new to this all huh? Never heard of The Dark Alleyway or RavenBlack before? That's okay, I'll fill you in.
(If you HAVE heard of the game, you should instead be reading the introduction.)
This forum is based around the goings on of a browser-based MMORPG called Vampires! A Dark Alleyway by somebody called Raven Black. The things that happen in this game are roleplayed out here, on Dead and Buried. However, D&B has gone a step further and is attempting to create an in-depth guide into things from this game which might appear in our roleplay.
Wait! You don't know what forum roleplay is? Hmmm … well, to put it simply, it's like taking turns writing a story with your friends, but you're only allowed to write the parts of your OWN character. If you're confused take a look at some of the existing roleplay here.
If at any point in this guide you are confused, or you need help getting started, you could always pick a mentor; somebody to help you out. Check out the adopt a newbie thread.
Anyways, now that's out of the way, what's your first step?
Step One: Creating a Character
On this forum you start of as a human. To become a vampire, you need to find a willing sire (see step 2). But for now, let's make a character sheet to show perspective sires what your idea for a character is like, and if they want their characters to be the ones to turn you. First of all, read this post. Now you know what a character sheet is, click here to make a quick one. Use this space like a profile on facebook or myspace, but instead of answering questions about yourself, answer them about your fictional human character who is about to become a vampire. Name? Age? History? Appearance? All are important in a character sheet, but keep it simple for now.
Step Two: Getting Turned
Now, unless you want your character to stay Human all their life, it's time to find him or her a sire. To do so, you should read this post.
Step Three: Into the Game
Now your character is a vampire, you have access to the game itself. You can use this game to gain powers, blood, money, and weapons, all of which will have a direct influence on how powerful or influential your character may be roleplayed here at D&B. For further information regarding how to play this game, you should definitely check out the RavenBlack City Wiki. Your aim at this stage is to gain as much blood and as many powers as you can, which will start very slow, but read a lot on the wiki and you'll be an elder in no time. With power comes more likelihood that other human characters will pick you as their sire, and then you'll have your own little family! Also, once you have two powers in city, you get to vote on the way the roleplay here on D&B is shaped by going to our Democratic Process board.
Step Four: Battle, Roleplay, Politics
Got power? Got blood? Then perhaps it's time for something a little more challenging roleplay-wise. Start some threads here, invent interesting stories and plot them out with other players here, get involved in in-game violence here and join a faction or a guild, or maybe you'd like to have your character sit down with the other important characters of the game and discuss (in character) how the vampire underground of this city should be run? If that sounds like fun, then you'll wanna go here.
